Clapper TFSIG!

The Triangle Filmmakers Special Interest Group

There’s a lot of talent in the Triangle, interested in making narrative films of all kinds.  But despite the North Carolina tradition of friendliness, there has not been any one place for a real community to form in recent years.  This is going to try to become that group.

The documentary folks have their center at Duke and a big festival. And the documentary and narrative forms are closer than ever. Nevetheless we think there's room for - and need for - a group aimed primarily at all the various aspects of narrative film.

We scheduled three monthly meetings in the hopes of convening a critical mass of interested folks.  The first meeting was in September and 10 very avid film folks showed up, followed by a meeting in October where the list grew to more than 30 interested folks. The next meeting will be on November 15th.  This is the third Thursday of the month.  The meeting will start at 7:30PM and both will be hosted in the studio facilities of Insight Studio 54 on Rt 54 in Durham, near Southpoint Mall and just off I-40. The address is 415 Hwy 54 in Durham.

The January meeting will be on the 24th but the location is not yet confirmed.

Who should attend & Why?

Anyone with an interest in filmmaking.  You may have almost any level of experience.  But most of all, you have realized that most films require more than one person and having a way to connect with a larger group of like-minded folks is the way to go.  Whether you like to be in front of the camera, behind it or hunched over a computer editing station, we hope this can become the place for you.  This is your chance to help create the place.

What Happens at the meeting?

These are "organizational" meetings. If you want to see a filmmakers' organization get off the ground, please come to the meeting, get on the mailing list and share your thoughts. We are going to devote the last 20 minutes of each evening to free-form standing around and chatting, since that is how each meeting so far has ended (or continued). Eventually, meetings may revolve around the work of individual filmmakers, but for now it's all about creating a face to face core community.
